Outside In update

My towering pile of chairs has been given another outing and is now ensconced at Cose Ipanema, 113 Collins St, until the 19th of June. It is a beautiful space full of beautiful clothes and the lofty 7m ceilings are enough to make any installation appear impressive. It is worth dropping in for this alone.

I also have a few bits peering out into Victoria Parade at ‘The Front Window Project’, Jenny Port’s new gallery space. They will be behind glass at 69 Victoria Pde  for a few weeks before moving to Red Gallery where they will be part of a curated group show entitled, ‘The Beast Beside Us’. Red is at 157 Georges Rd, North Fitzroy. The show will be open from 10 – 27 June

And while I’m on a roll, I should also mention that my work has also been included in Conspiators, at the Yarra Gallery in Fed. Square. This show, curated by Carmen Reid, runs as part of the Czech and Slovak Film Festival, this year showcasing the films of  Jan Svankmajer, amongst others. If you haven’t seen Svankmajer’s work it is worth seeking out – I am really looking forward to seeing how the other artists in the show represent the spirit of his extraordinary Surrealist animations.

The exhibition and festival run from 21-28 August with the opening from 6-8 on the 22nd.

Also…

OutsideIn is being given a second chance under the spotlight at NotFair. Unsurprisingly, it returned home after it’s gala stint at Fehily Contempory where it has been serving out it’s days as a giant dust collector. A very wise friend of mine, who is also a sculptor, once advised me that the only way to make my work commercially viable was to design it to hang on a wall. I think he was probably right.

NotFair is a biennial curated exhibition showcasing the work of 20 odd unrepresented artists. It opens on Thursday the 14th of August, 6-8pm, at The Grace Darling hotel, where you will find my chairs piled up in a corner of the band room, heartbeat and all.  The Grace Darling is on the corner of Smith and Peel Sreets, Collingwood. The show runs until Sunday August the 17th.

FINALLY…

Outside In

Anybody in the vicinity of Fehily Contemporary (3a Glasshouse St, Collingwood) on Saturday the 26th, between 3 & 5pm, please drop by and have a drink. I’ll be the relieved-looking-one, glass in hand – or with any luck I’ll be looking relieved. If you find me hiding in a corner, also with glass in hand, it will mean the installation has not gone well. The show is on from April 24th until May 17th. Please bring any friends with enormous homes and a liking for large installations.
