Dreamweavers

…forgot to mention that Dreamweavers opens the same weekend that Baggage comes down. Dreamweavers is the brain-child of the gorgeous Simon Gregg, who has been putting this show together since 2009. I have the good fortune to have four pieces included in this stellar line-up. My beasties will be standing alongside the work of Eloise Calandre, James Gleeson, Adam Laersksen, Sam Spenser and Joel Zika. The show travels nationally for two years but begins its run on May 20, at The Gippsland Art Gallery, Sale, where Simon is the curator. I am looking forward to the opening, especially as it will be my first opportunity seeing all the work in the flesh and Simon’s vision made concrete. Can’t tell you how nice it is not to have to stick them in the back of my car and lug them around.

The dates and venues are as follows:

Gippsland Art Gallery, Sale (Vic)  14 May – 10 July 2011

McClelland Gallery (Vic) 21 August – 30 October 2011

Maitland Regional Gallery (NSW) 9 December – Feb 2012

Swan Hill Regional Gallery (VIC) 2 March – 15 April 2012

Redland Art Gallery (QLD) 1 September – 21 October 2012

Devonport Regional Gallery (TAS) 10 November – 30 December 20212

Plimsoll Gallery (TAS) 5 January – 24 February 2013

Western Plains Cultural Centre, Dubbo (NSW) 9 March – 29 April 2013

Thanks also to  Barbara And Jurek Kubiena, Andrew Roper and Julia de Ville (who own three out of the four pieces on tour) for parting with their monsters  for the next two years…

Off to Sydney…

I am just about to ship this small piece off to Sydney. Much to my great surprise, and excitement, it has been shortlisted for the 2010 Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize. The show opens on October 22nd and runs through to November 7th. I am hoping to be there on opening night and am looking forward to seeing the other entries in the flesh. If you are interested in seeing the work of all the finalists go to http://sculptureprize.woollahra.nsw.gov.au

Travelling ‘Stick Insects’

For those who missed  my most recent work at Pigment’s Black & White show – do not fear, they have become a travelling circus. As mentioned, Jenny Port generously included them in her Winter Highlights show, but now they have travelled down the road and around the corner to Carbon Black, where Tim is looking after them for the next few weeks or so.

If this keeps up, I may never have to bring them home.

For the first time since 2006, no shows and no deadlines pending.

Perhaps I might actually pick up a paintbrush….

My three Stick Insects have moved location and are now at Jenny Port Gallery in Albert St, Richmond until the beginning of August. And whilst you are in Albert St pop in to Sophie Gannon. For the last month I have been frantically working on a largish piece of work in collaboration with Julia deVille. Julia’s solo show Night’s Plutonian Shores opens on the 28th and our big beastie will be guarding the door.

And for anyone who has been trying to contact me through my contact page – it seems to be have been experiencing some difficulties. Please try aa@thecupboard.com.au
